6/6/25 Course Update

Bighorn Trail Run Alert for 100M and 52M Runners!

🚨 Important reminder: Elk Camp will NOT be an aid station this year. Strong recommendation to carry a filter bottle in the Littlehorn Canyon!🚨

🛤️ From Jaws to Spring Marsh is 8.5 miles, so make sure you’re prepared with ample fluids and nutrition — consider carrying a filter bottle, as there’s plenty of water on the course but no aid station at Elk Camp.

💡 For 100M runners, if you leave Sally’s Footbridge after 2pm, you should plan to have night gear with you. This includes:
✅ Headlamp
✅ Gloves
✅ Buff
✅ Warmer layers
✅ Rain gear
✅ Leggings

🌡️ Remember, temperature swings are significant: it can be warm or hot in Little Horn Canyon and drop to freezing at Jaws Trailhead.

⛑️ The biggest risk of a DNF in this section comes from being unprepared — don’t let that happen to you.

🔑 Be prepared. Be self-sufficient. Set yourself up for success — that’s part of being a successful ultrarunner.

🔥 If you’re less experienced, don’t underestimate this advice — it’s essential to finishing strong!

We can’t wait to see you all out there! 🏔️💪 #BighornTrailRun #Ultrarunning #BePrepared #RunSmart #CountdownToRaceDay

Bighorn Trail Run Update!

💪 Big shoutout to our trail crew and the Forest Service for their hard work in the Little Horn Canyon! They teamed up to reroute a section of trail to make it safer for all participants — we’re so grateful for their dedication. 👏

✅ On Saturday, the trail crew cleared the trail from Head of Dry Fork to Sally’s Footbridge — another huge step toward race day readiness!

⛰️ The last section left to scout is from Jaws Trailhead to Wagon Box Bridge (about 6.5 miles), covering the start of the 52-mile and the turnaround for the 100M. Snow conditions have been holding us back, but we’ll be able to access this section next week!

🚩 Course marking teams will begin marking the course this upcoming weekend, getting everything prepped for your big adventure!

❄️ Snow depth at Bald Mountain near Jaws Trailhead is down to 29 inches, indicating that the course should be snow-free by race day!

🎉 With race day for the 100-mile event just 12 days away, we can feel the excitement building — the mountains are calling, and we can’t wait to welcome you all to this year’s adventure!

Bighorn Trail Run Update!

🚨 Trail crew is making incredible progress! 🚨

✅ Sally’s Footbridge ➔ Head of Dry Fork has been scouted and is in great condition — ready for your feet!
✅ Riley Point, the first 7 miles of the 32-mile, was scouted and cleared yesterday. This section was directly in the heart of the Elk Fire — the area we were most unsure about — and we’re thrilled to report it’s looking good! 🙌 That means the 32-mile will remain on its original course!🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

🛤️ The last section left to scout is from Jaws Trailhead to Wagon Box Bridge (approximately6.5 miles), covering the start of the 52-mile and the turnaround for the 100M. Snow conditions have been holding us back, but with temps rising fast, the high-elevation snow is melting quickly. ❄️🌞

❄️ Snow depth at Bald Mountain near Jaws Trailhead is down to 43 inches — a total melt-off of 15 inches in the last week! 💪

The mountains are waking up, and the trails are calling! We’re pumped to get the final sections cleared and ready for race day. Stay tuned — this year’s event is shaping up to be unforgettable! 🏔️🔥

Course Update 5/20/2025

Bighorn Trail Run Update!

Spring in the Bighorns is putting on a SHOW! 🌸❄️
We’ve got fresh snow in the high country and wildflowers bursting with color down low — the contrast is unreal. 🌼🌲

❄️ Snow depth at Bald Mountain is currently 57 inches, and it’s melting steadily as spring storms roll through.
🛤️ Trail crews are still hard at work, and we’re continuing to scout key sections as conditions allow. Nothing significant to report yet, but stay on the lookout for updates!

No changes to our permits are expected  — and while we’re still planning on the original course, we haven’t seen every mile yet.

The mountains are waking up in a big way, and we can’t wait to welcome you to this year’s adventure! 🏔️💪 #BighornTrailRun

PACERS

RACE WEEK SCHEDULE

RACE WEEK SCHEDULE

Bighorn 100M generously allows pacers from mile 30 (Sally's Footbridge) on the outbound. Pacers, please be considerate and carry your supplies including food and drinks. Bighorn Trail Run plans and provides supplies, food, and drinks for participants, but we do not plan for pacers as they are not entered in the event. We are proud we offer pacing earlier than most events to allow runners to have a pacer through the night, and we do not limit the number of pacers a participant can use while on course. Our aid stations are prepared for all participants entered, but not for pacers on course. Thanks for your understanding.
